Müller Ice Cap Daily Report Friday May 30

Daily Report for 30 May 2025

The Müller ice cap camp is now closed. Due to the amazing efforts of all in camp, as well as the Twin Otter and Basler crews, we managed to take down camp, and fly all camp gear, equipment and all 8 camp members to Eureka today. This was accomplished by a

total of 6 flights: 3 by the Basler and 3 by the Twin Otter. Nicholas and

Richard went out by the first Twin Otter to help unload in Eureka, then Iben

And Tessa went out with the second Basler mission to further expedite unloading. On the third and final Basler, Rebecca, Bo, Etienne, Julien as well as the last remaining cargo was flown out.
An enormous thank you to Troy and Liam in the Twin Otter and Kyle, Luke and Gillian in the Basler for all their help in getting camp closed – even helping pulling cargo to the planes and taking down all our skiway markings, while we were getting the last two tents down! After all was said and done, both planes were all loaded up and set to go to Eureka around dinner time - if it had not been for a technical issue with the right Twin Otter ski suddenly keeping it from getting airborne! Again, the Twin Otter and Basler crews showed their amazing skills effectuating a repair right there on the snow surface of Müllers Ice Cap within just a couple of hours. Hence, both planes could get in the air shortly after 20.00, getting as all back to Eureka for unloading the final cargo. There, all 8 camp members and 5 air crew worked together to finish off a long but highly rewarding days’ work, as we just managed to close camp before another snow storm was coming!

What we have done today:

- Packed up camp.

- Loaded 3 Twin Otter flights and 3 Basler flights with cargo and equipment.

- Flew out all remaining camp members.

- Closed camp.

- Unloaded 3 Twin Otter flights and 3 Basler flights with cargo and equipment in Eureka.

We are now 8 in Eureka (Etienne, Iben, Rebecca, Richard, Nicholas, Tessa, Julien and Bo).

Wx at Müller: Sunny day all day, approximately 10kn wind from 250 deg and temperatures around -10C, Davies weather station was taken down around 16.00.

Caption: The time is 09.40 and we have the Basler and the Twin Otter in camp for their first of three shuttle missions to Eureka with cargo each. There is still a lot to be flown out, but the weather is perfect for our camp demobilization operation! Nicholas and Richard have their gear ready to board the Twin Otter.

Caption: Time in 13.20 and Tessa and Iben are leaving on the second Basler flight out. Cargo is almost flown out, but a few tents remain, as the four remaining camp members need some basic infrastructure in case weather impedes further flights.

Caption: Weather is still ok for flights! A 360-degree view of where camp used to be, with Rebecca pulling the last items on a sledge towards the Basler that is getting loaded with the last remaining cargo and personal bags. The Twin Otter is standing fully loaded in the background and the time is 17.15 on May 30th 2025.

Caption: Nicholas, having left Müller Ice Cap before lunch to help unload planes in Eureka, is driving the happy, but exhausted final Müller camp crew of four (Etienne, Julien, Bo and Rebecca in front) from the airfield to the station after the third and last Basler and Twin Otter flight had been unloaded in the evening.
