Müller Ice Cap Daily Report Monday May 12
Daily Report for 12 May 2025
Unfortunately, a different kind of excitement could be felt in the tent, as it was increasingly difficult to break the core! After a difficult core break, the filter was deployed in the bore hole, coming up 1/3 full. Drilling was resumed, yet core breaking remained difficult for the next two runs. Thus, filtering continued until the end the late shift, and a top up of estisol in the borehole.
What
we have done today:
-
Drilling main core, drilled 9 runs from 557.66m to 573.91m (16.25m).
-
Logged and O18 sampled bags from bag 558 to 573.
-
Filtered main bore hole twice.
-
Started drilling of shallow core for firn-gas sampling, current depth: 5m.
-
Made first firn-gas sample.
We
are 13 in camp (Alison, Etienne, Iben, Rebecca, Fei, Richard, Nicholas, Tessa,
Nerilie, Anais, Jamie, Julien and Bo)
Alison
Criscitiello and Bo Vinther.

Fei, Jamie and Anais started the firn-gas sampling today – first sample is for
mercury analysis.

After Richard has carried out the logging of the latest section of the main
core, he crosses out the bedrock bets, that we know have not won. We are all
hoping to find a winner sooner rather than later!
