Müller Ice Cap Daily Report Friday May 9
Daily Report for 9 May 2025
On the positive side, all our drilling and science operations in camp are
progressing at pace, but with some 20% of our main cores being difficult to
handle today, due to the brittleness of the ice. Cores with many fractures are
a challenge for the logging, and at also for some of the science to be done. We
do our best to adjust on both drilling and logging procedures, and thankfully
did see improvement in core quality during the latter part of the day.
What
we have done:
-
Drilling main core in shifts, drilled 15 runs from 464.86m to 495.58 (30.72 m).
-
Logged and O18 sampled bags from bag 465 to 495.
-
Drilling second shallow core, current logged depth: 31m.
-
Worked on firn-gas setup in the tent SE of camp.
-
Received Twin Otter for precautionary medivac.
We
are 13 in camp (Alison, Etienne, Iben, Rebecca, Fei, Richard, Nicholas, Tessa,
Nerilie, Anais, Jamie, Julien and Bo)
Alison
Criscitiello and Bo Vinther.
